Tim studied Linguistics, Psychology, and Sociology at the universities of Freiburg, Bielefeld and Dublin and received his M. A. in Clinical Linguistics from the University of Bielefeld in 1995. After working as a speech therapist in different neurological rehabilitation centres, he joined the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Technology, Munich, as a clinical researcher. In 1999, he received his PhD in Phonetics from the Department of Phonetics and Speech Communication at the University of Munich. Tim is cross-appointed to the Faculty of Dentistry as well as the Music and Health Research Collaboratory at the University of Toronto. He is a co-director (research) of the International Centre for Disability and Rehabilitation and a co-editor (speech) of Clinical Linguistics & Phonetics.

Research & Scholarly Activities 

Tim’s research interests are in the areas of structurally related speech and voice disorders. The main focus of his research are the speech disorders related to cleft lip and palate. He is also interested in head and neck cancer, in particular tongue surgery. The Voice and Resonance Lab has equipment and research tools for acoustic analysis, nasometry as well as two-and three-dimensional ultrasound imaging.

Teaching, Funding & Awards

Tim teaches the graduate courses SLP 1525 Structurally Related Disorders and SLP 1530 Voice Disorders. He supervises research projects of undergraduate and graduate students.
