Welcome to the Department of Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Toronto.
It is an honour to serve as Chair of this vibrant department, which has led the way in professional education and research since 1958 as the first English-speaking program in Canada. From its beginnings as a postgraduate diploma to today’s MHSc program, our department continues to evolve to meet the growing demand for speech-language pathologists across Ontario, Canada, and beyond.
Our mission is to prepare students to become practice-ready clinicians, researchers, and advocates who improve care for individuals with communication and swallowing disorders.Through rigorous academic training, hands-on clinical education, and interprofessional collaboration, our graduates are recognized for their expertise and leadership in diverse settings.
As part of the University of Toronto’s rehabilitation sciences sector, we work closely with our affiliate departments in Physical Therapy, Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy, and the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute (RSI). For those interested in advancing research, we offer opportunities to pursue MSc and PhD degrees in Speech-Language Pathology through RSI, where students engage in innovative, interdisciplinary research that shapes the future of the field.
Our faculty are leaders in research and education, fostering partnerships that amplify our impact. I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our program, faculty, and community and to discover why the University of Toronto remains a leader in speech-language pathology.
