The Alumni Association is proud to recognize excellence, leadership, and service within the University of Toronto Speech‑Language Pathology community through the following awards:
2025 Distinguished Service Award Winner:
Distinguished Service Award
The Distinguished Service Award honours alumni of the University of Toronto Department of Speech‑Language Pathology who have made outstanding contributions to the fields of communication and swallowing disorders. One recipient is selected annually based on excellence in at least two of the areas below:
Academic Excellence:
- Significant contributions to research, teaching, and/or student training
Clinical Services:
- Recognized by colleagues as a mentor or clinical resource
- Leadership or involvement in innovative programs benefiting clients
Promotion of the Profession:
- Volunteer service with regulatory colleges or professional associations
- Representation on committees or health‑related boards
- Development of innovative SLP programs (e.g., hospitals, schools, rehabilitation centres, private practice)
- Promotion of speech‑language pathology to health professionals, students, and community groups

Student Awards:
Our Association also sponsors the following student awards in recognition of academic excellence, research achievement, and community contribution:
Entrance Award

A named award honouring former Department Chair Margaret Stoicheff, adjudicated jointly by the Alumni Association and the Department. This award recognizes an incoming student who has demonstrated excellence prior to entering the program.
Paula Square Travel Award
-
Awarded to a doctoral student in the Department of Speech‑Language Pathology whose research has been accepted for conference presentation and who requires financial support for travel.
Margaret Stoicheff Spirit Award
Presented to a Year II clinical program student voted by their peers for outstanding contributions to class spirit and community throughout the program.
