Alumni Distinquished Service Award 2012

S-LP Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Award – Presented at the Awards Breakfast November 7th, 2012

The Speech-Language Pathology (S-LP) Distinguished Service Award recognizes Alumni of the UofT S-LP department who have made outstanding contributions to the fields of communication disorders and swallowing in at least two of the following areas: academic achievement, clinical services, and promotion of the profession.

Our winner this year made outstanding contributions in all three of these areas.  It was the Alumni Association’s great honor to present the 2012 Distinguished Service Award to Nancy Thomas-Stonell at the department’s annual Awards Breakfast on November 7th.

Nancy is the Research Scientist in the S-LP department at the Bloorview Research Institute at Holland Bloorview, and has been the lead researcher on a multi-year pediatric outcome measures project funded by the CIHR.  She has presented this research worldwide, and the FOCUS outcome measure tool, which is the culmination of this research, was launched this June. This tool will become the standard for the Ontario Preschool Speech and Language Programs.

Nancy holds the title of Assistant Professor here at the department, and has also acted as a reviewer to the CIHR, a consultant to the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, and a member of the CASLPA outcome measure position paper steering committee.

Her colleagues have praised her as an insightful and compassionate clinician who is hardworking, warm, fun, and an exceptional speaker.

On behalf of the Speech-Language Pathology Alumni Association, congratulations Nancy, and thank you for your ongoing contributions to our profession!
