Retirement Announcement
Message from the Chair

Alice Eriks-Brophy, associate professor and director of the Childhood Hearing Loss Lab, is retiring this summer. It is with mixed feelings that we say goodbye to Alice, a wonderful colleague and a valued member of our department. Over the years she has taken on a number of different roles, which she speaks to in more detail in her farewell message. However, one that stands out for me is her term as graduate coordinator, a role that she executed with enthusiasm and true dedication to our students and our program. With regards to her research, which focuses on aural rehabilitation in children with hearing loss, she brought a unique expertise. Through her professional relationships and research with Indigenous peoples, we gained a deeper understanding of the challenges these groups face when having limited or even no access to rehabilitation. This perspective has taught us a great deal and guided research for herself and that of her students locally and abroad. Although Alice won’t be a physical presence in the department, we look forward to collaborating with her on her endeavours as professor emerita.
