SLP 60th Anniversary Celebrations

On June 1st, our department celebrated its 60th birthday with an exciting educational event. The event was opened by Dean Trevor Young and the Department Chair Pascal van Lieshout.  The Ontario Deputy Minister of Health and Long-Term Care Dr. Bob Bell gave the keynote.  Cutting- edge research in SLP was presented by Aura Kagan (The Aphasia Institute), Elaine Weitzman (The Hanen Centre), Rosemary Martino (Dep of SLP) and Jana Leggett (Toronto District School Board).

An excellent panel discussion about the future of research-clinical collaboration took place, featuring experts from University and sites involved in clinical research. Check back for a summary of the panel discussion (coming soon).

There was a special OSCARS presentation, which included a great choir performance by students. At the end of the day, the many guests who attended this exciting even enjoyed a slice of the Anniversary cake and a signature cocktail “What Happens in Vagus” (named after the Vagus cranial nerve). Recipe coming soon.

Thank you to Business Officer, Mark Melchior and MHSc Student, Vivian Che for “covering” the event for us. Below are a few chosen moments and here are some quotes from guests:
“It was truly a wonderful day!”; “The spirit and sense of community in the room was vibrant!”; “I was very impressed with the structure and organization of the program – “Real Impact” was, unquestionably, achieved.”
