Southern Illinois University at Carbondale

Background:
After completing a Licentiate degree in Orthopedagogical Sciences at the University of Leuven in Belgium, I worked for a number of years at a speech rehabilitation centre in Belgium providing assessment and treatment services to children who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as to children and adults who stutter. Subsequently, I obtained a Ph.D. degree in communication disorders from Southern Illinois University ā€“ Carbondale in the US, followed by a 2 year post-doctoral research position in the Speech and Motor Control Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Upon completing the post-doc, I joined the faculty in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology at the University of Toronto, where I currently am a Full Professor. In addition, I hold the positions of Vice-Dean (students) in the School of Graduate Studies, Affiliated Scientist at the Toronto Western Research Institute, Adjunct Scientist at the Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute, and Visiting Professor in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Leuven (Belgium).

Professional Interests:
My research interest is focused on the use of behavioural, kinematic and neuroimaging techniques to study the neural bases of developmental and neurogenic stuttering. In particular, Iā€™m interesting in bridging research findings and clinical practice as they related to speech fluency disorders.
