Honouring Jo(anne) DeLuzio’s 25 Years of Teaching
Story Adapted By: Jessica Boafo

Jo(anne) DeLuzio
For 25 years, Jo(anne) DeLuzio inspired SLP students at U of T through her teaching in Applied Audiology and Aural Rehabilitation. As an Audiologist and Adjunct Professor, she brought the interconnectedness of hearing and speech to life in the classroom, emphasizing that communication is a human right and encouraging students to confront systemic barriers and biases in practice.
Jo’s reflections highlight her belief that while knowledge is important, the real impact lies in listening, to clients and to students, and in continually growing as clinicians. Her influence will be remembered not only for the skills she taught but also for the values she instilled.
We thank Jo for her decades of dedication and wish her all the best in retirement.
